DJ Coaching

How do you learn to DJ properly in Berlin?

You learn to DJ properly by working through the fundamentals -- beatmatching, phrasing, EQ, and reading the floor -- with a working DJ who still does it every week. Frankie Flowerz has played Berlin clubs since 1984 and is resident at KitKatClub every Monday night; coaching is one-to-one, online worldwide or in person in Berlin, on a monthly membership you can cancel any time.

Who it is for

This is for beginners who want to start correctly and for intermediate DJs who feel stuck -- whether you are practising on controllers at home or stepping up to CDJs and a club mixer. Sessions are practical and progress at your pace.

What you will work on

  • Beatmatching and phrase counting by ear -- no sync crutch
  • EQ, filters, and gain structure on a club mixer
  • Building and reading a record box for house and techno
  • Energy management and reading the floor across a set
  • CDJ workflow -- cue points, loops, hot cues, library management
  • Recording and critically reviewing your own mixes

What you will walk away with

  • Play a confident, smooth 60-minute set from start to finish
  • Know how to structure a night -- warm-up, peak, closing arc
  • Build a record box with genuine depth and personal identity
  • Walk into a club booth and operate unfamiliar gear without panic

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own gear to start DJ coaching?
No. Frankie will assess what you have access to and tailor sessions accordingly. Having any two-deck setup -- even a basic controller -- is enough to begin.
Are DJ coaching sessions online or in person in Berlin?
Both options are available. Online sessions run worldwide via video call; in-person sessions are available in Berlin. The free 20-min intro call is always online.
How long does it take to learn to DJ?
Most students can play a coherent mix within four to eight weeks of consistent practice. Playing confidently in public typically takes three to six months depending on how much you practise between sessions.
What software or format does Frankie teach?
Sessions focus on CDJ and club-mixer technique (the industry standard), but Frankie can also work with Rekordbox, Traktor, and controller setups depending on your goals.
What does the monthly DJ coaching membership include?
A flat monthly fee covers regular one-to-one sessions, mix feedback between sessions, and access to Frankie directly. Cancel any time -- no contract, no penalty.
